21 Day Sugar Detox and Steak with Raspberry & Blue Cheese Sauce

Sugar detox and a recipe with blue cheese and raspberries don’t really go together, but that’s just too bad. I am currently on Day 1 Level 3 of the 21-Day Sugar Detox. Level 3 is for those who already follow a Paleo/Primal diet. The purpose of this detox is two-fold: 1.) I really feel like I’m still addicted to sugar (in the forms of fruit, honey, maple syrup, sweet potatoes, etc.) and that this will be a good thing for my body. 2.) Just to prove to myself that I can really do it. I’ve been thinking about starting for months, but would put it off for one reason or the other. I decided today was going to kick-off my 21 days of no sugar and so I celebrated last night by eating Chocolate Mousse Cheesecake from The Cheesecake Factory and drinking red wine…probably not the best choice but here I am 2 out of 3 meals done and no sugar so far.

Today for breakfast I had scrambled eggs on top of spring greens with avocado along with a smoothie made with my one allowed green tipped banana, spinach, coconut water, almond butter and cinnamon. It was really good. For lunch I had some leftover veggies from last night (asparagus and mushrooms) and a leftover burger over spinach. For dinner I have planned some baked cod and roasted Brussels sprouts and rutabaga. I just pulled some coconut flour biscuits with rosemary and sun-dried tomatoes out of the oven. I have a feeling I will be eating those all week!

I will keep you posted on how my progress is going. Joe said he’ll be keeping track of how crabby I become. :)

Before starting the diet my awesome hubby cooked me these delicious steaks. It was honestly the best steak I think I’ve ever had. We made roasted mashed sweet potatoes and roasted Brussels sprouts for the sides. Delicious…I’m drooling just thinking about it. This may be my first meal off the detox! Oh how I miss my sweet potatoes already.

Steaks with Raspberry & Blue Cheese Sauce

Serves 2
Prep time 25 minutes
Meal type Main Dish
Tart raspberries with a touch of sweetness and tangy blue cheese pair perfectly with a delicious grilled steak.

Ingredients

  • 2 New York strip steaks (seasoned)
  • 1 cup raspberries (fresh or frozen)
  • 3 tablespoons balsamic vinegar
  • 2 tablespoons honey
  • 1/4 cup blue cheese (optional if you do dairy)

Directions

Step 1
Heat grill and cook steak until desired doneness (sorry I don't time this out and Joe usually does all the grilling).
Step 2
While steak cooks, heat raspberries, balsamic vinegar and honey in a small pot over medium heat. Let cook down about 10 minutes until you get a thick sauce.
Step 3
Once steaks have cooked through and rested, serve topped with the raspberry sauce and blue cheese.
